The forecast for all of Vermont, and adjoining New Hampshire, New York, Quebec, and Massachusetts:
Tonight: Any snow showers retreating to the northern mountains and diminishing, beneath thinning clouds. Little or no snow accumulation. Lows from 8-17. West to northwest winds of 10-15 mph, diminishing.
Tuesday: Variable clouds and sun, with a light morning snow shower over the northern mountains. Highs 22-32. West to northwest winds of 5-10 mph.
Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy to start, then increasing clouds late. Lows from 9-21. Coldest northeast. Light north winds diminishing.
Extended Forecast:
Wednesday: Filtered sunshine north. Cloudy south with snow becoming likely by afternoon in Massachusetts, with a chance of snow late north to route 4. Highs from the mid 20s to around 30.
Wednesday Night: Becoming partly cloudy. Lows 10-19.
Thursday: Partly sunny with a few mountain snow showers, mainly north. Highs in the middle 20s to low 30s.
Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy with a chance of snow showers, mainly north. Lows 10-20.
Friday: Partly sunny with a chance of mountain snow showers north. Highs in the middle 20s to low 30s.
SIGNIFICANT/HAZARDOUS WEATHER:
Light to moderate snow is looking increasingly likely for late Wednesday into Wednesday night south of route 4. Winter driving conditions can be expected. |

Mountain Forecast:
Snow showers frequent in the north, with clouds in and out across the summits above 2000 feet, lifting a little this afternoon. Mostly cloudy with a few snow showers south, clouds above 3500 feet. Clouds and lingering morning snow showers north Tuesday, summits in and out of the clouds above 3500 feet, lifting in the afternoon. Becoming partly sunny south. Less wind and not as cold Tuesday.

February 8th's sunrise occurs at 7:00, setting this evening at 5:09, with the length of day 10 hours and 9 minutes.
Tremendously cold air enveloped the region on this date in 1861, perhaps the coldest 24 hours in the 19th century. Temperatures fell throughout the 7th, bottoming out on the morning of the 8th at 32 below in Burlington, minus 36 in Craftsbury, and -40 in Lunenburg. In Hanover, NH the temperature fell from 37 on the afternoon of the 7th, to -32 the next morning - a drop of 69 degrees in 18 hours! |
